CLAIRECORDS ARTISTS SCIFLYER TO RELEASE ENERGIZER, AN EP OF
PREVIOUSLY-UNRELEASED TRACKS, 9/11/15
File
Under: Shoegaze, indie pop, dream pop
You may or may not have seen or heard suggestions that
shoegaze is back with burgeoning vigor --not that it ever really went anywhere
in the first place. Steve Kennedy, guitarist and singer for the Alameda,
CA-based trio Sciflyer, has always maintained that the band’s otherworldly
dream-pop creations originate “somewhere in the ether.” It’s an apt descriptor
as the group prepares to slip the surly bonds of earth once again. The time has
come to tune in, turn on, plug in, and blast off.
Not long after Sciflyer’s third Clairecords release, They
Only Believe in the Moon, arrived in 2014, Kennedy rummaged through its
archives and unearthed a batch of tracks that were, for various and sundry reasons,
never given proper issuance. The never-released “Energizer” and “You're From The Ocean” accompany
“Beyond The Event Horizon,” a live recording taped in Las Vegas in 2003; “Time Bomb,” which was nudged off of 2005’s
The Age of Lovely, Intimate Things at the last minute; and “Letting Go of
Everything,” a leftover track from They Only Believe in the Moon. This collection of
sought-after tunes makes Energizer another essential offering from the Band Who
Fell to Earth.
